Alexia Sotomayor, Peruvian National Record Holder, Chooses Arizona State

NEW COMMIT: Arizona State University has gained a big verbal commitment for Fall 2025 from Peruvian national record holder Alexia Sotomayor, who currently resides in Boca Raton, Florida.

She will join Nikolett Padar as a member of the Sun Devils’ Class of 2029.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond grateful and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue with both my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University! I would like to thank my family, my friends, my coaches, teammates and teachers who supported me in this journey. Incredibly thankful with Coach Bob Bowman and all the ASU coaches for this opportunity!Can’t wait to be a Sun Devil!”

Sotomayor competes for Peru internationally, recently finishing 10th in the 200m back at the Pan Am Games in Chile. She competed at both the World Championships and Junior World Championships this past summer.

In 2022, she finished seventh in the 100m back at Junior Worlds.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.57
  • 100 back – 54.59
  • 200 back – 2:03.68
  • 50 fly – 25.05
  • 100 fly – 53.88
  • 50 free – 23.82
  • 100 free – 51.79

Currently a junior at Saint Andrews School in Florida, Sotomayor finished second in the 100 fly at the 2023 Florida 1A State Championships. She took third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 back during her sophomore season.
