NEW COMMIT: The University of Pennsylvania has received their first verbal commitment* for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Alex Fu of Sugar Land, Texas.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at the University of Pennsylvania! I’m incredibly blessed to be continuing my academic and athletic careers at a world renowned institute. I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches that have supported me throughout this journey. Go Quakers!!”

Fu, who does his club swimming with First Colony Swim Team, most recently posted eight top-3 finishes at the FCST Spring Fling meet last month after a strong showing at College Station Sectionals in February 2020. In Summer 2019, he placed 20th in the 200m breast and 21st in the 100m breast at Des Moines Futures.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.74
  • 200 breast – 2:00.26
  • 100 fly – 48.96
  • 50 free – 20.75
  • 100 free – 45.28
  • 200 free – 1:40.82
  • 200 IM – 1:52.45

Currently a junior at Clements High School, Fu is a three-time Texas 6A State Championship finalist. He placed seventh in the 100 fly and 11th in the 100 breast in 2021 while taking 13th in the former event during his sophomore season.

He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.

Fu would’ve ranked No. 2 on Penn’s roster last season in the 100 fly and No. 4 in the 100/200 breast as well as the 100 free. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 fly and the C-final of the 50/100/200 free and 100/200 breast at the 2020 Ivy League Championships.
