NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has received a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Las Vegas, Nevada native and current high school junior Reese Hazan.

Hazan swims year-round with Sandpipers of Nevada and owns a trio of U.S. Open cuts with five additional Summer Junior standards. She most recently competed at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Knoxville where her highest finish was a ninth-place showing in the 200m fly. At Winter Nationals in December, she placed seventh in the 400m IM to earn her first Olympic Trials cut. She earned gold in the 400m IM and recorded six best times at NCSAs this past summer and placed fourth in that event at 2017 Juniors West.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Alabama! When I stepped foot on campus, I knew that this is where I wanted to spend the next 4 years of my life. I  would like to thank everyone who has helped me along this journey. Roll Tide!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.80
  • 100 back – 55.20
  • 200 back – 1:56.71
  • 200 fly – 1:56.87
  • 200 IM – 2:01.76
  • 400 IM – 4:14.50
  • 200 breast – 2:18.63

Hazan’s versatility will be extremely beneficial for Alabama when she arrives in Tuscaloosa as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve placed in the B-final of the 200 fly as well as the C-final of the 400 IM at the 2019 SEC Championships, and is just on the edge of scoring range in a number of other events.

Her coach, Ronald Aitken, said:

“Reese is another one top athletes on the club that has been with is since she was swimming as an 8 and under. I’ve been able to watch her grow up and stay competitive, continue working hard, and always want to get better.”
