Akron is on pace to win its fourth straight women’s Mid-American Conference Championship tomorrow night in Oxford, Ohio. This would be the fourth overall conference title for the Zips.

Akron got things started off with a win in the 400 IM from freshman Jackie Pash. Pash led from the start and won with a 4:18.06. It was Akron’s first win in the 400 IM at the meet in school history. She got some pressure from Buffalo senior Brittney Walters as she was second at 4:18.64. A pair of freshmen followed those two with Ohio’s Mikayla Helrich (4:19.64) and Miami’s Carolyn Jungers (4:21.05).

It was Akron’s second straight win in that event after Erin Seiler won it last year. Corrin Van Lanen of Ohio was second at 53.13 and Julia Box of Buffalo was third at 53.77.

Myers was second in the final with a 53.18 while Szynal, the defending champion, was third at 53.45. It was EMU's first win in the 100 back at the MAC Championships since the inaugural event in 1981.

Akron finished off the night with a dominating 400 medley performance. They got some serious pressure from Eastern Michigan in the first half as they had the 100 back and breast champions back to back, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Zips. Akron broke the meet record by two seconds with a 3:34.39 for the win. Szynal (53.27), Marrero (59.78), Fazekas (52.52) and Myers (48.82) were on the record setting relay for Akron as Eastern was second, under the old record from 2012. Mitcheltree (52.57), Duncan (1:00.06), Carly Jackson (53.77) and Grace Van Allen (49.93) swam for the Eagles as they were solidly in second. Miami was third at 3:40.03.
