Aggies’ Matt Rose Named Big 12 Male Swimmer of the Month

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Jan. 22. TEXAS A&M junior All-American Matt Rose was named the Big 12 Male Swimmer of the Month by the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday.

The Lindsay, Ontario, native earns his second January Big 12 Swimmer of the Month award in as many years on the strength of strong performances against LSU last weekend as well as on A&M's winter training trip in Hawaii.

Rose was named the Heineken Red Star Swimmer of the Meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet in Honolulu on Jan. 3. He won the 50-yard freestyle in an NCAA consideration time of 20.25, then led off the 10 x 50 freestyle relay even faster with a time of 20.22. Rose also finished second in the 50 back with a time of 22.71.

Against LSU, Rose dropped his 50 free time yet again, this time to 20.19 seconds, to grab first place. Rose also turned in a consideration time of 44.51 in winning the 100 freestyle. Against the Tigers, he also led off the first place 200 medley relay in 22.67 and anchored the winning 400 free relay in 43.63.

The Aggies have a little more than two weeks off before facing rival SMU in College Station on Feb. 6. A&M beat SMU in Dallas 122-119 a year ago marking the first time the Aggies have ever won on the Mustangs' turf.
