Abby Samansky Clocks Four CIF Central Section D1 Records

The Clovis West girls and the Clovis North boys won the 2018 CIF Central Section Division 1 Championships on Saturday.

Girls

Abby Samansky led the way for the Clovis West girls. The junior set a new section record in the 200 freestyle (1:47.79) and the 100 freestyle (49.90). Her senior teammate Caitlyn Snyder was just on her heels in the 100 free, finishing second in 50.86.

Samansky also led off (23.86) the team’s winning, section record setting 200 freestyle relay (Jordan GruceLexie Voice, and Snyder) as the quartet posted a 1:35.75. That same foursome swam a 3:29.57 to set a new section record in the 400 freestyle relay.

Snyder set a section record of her own, winning the 50 freestyle in 23.27.

Clovis went one-two in the 200 IM behind Shelby Vidmanr (2:10.49) and Abby Mammen (2:10.75). Their teammate Averee Preble came up just two tenths shy of the 100 butterfly record, winning in 55.24. Preble won the 500 freestyle in 4:48.72. After touching second in the 200 IM Mammen won the 100 backstroke with a 57.73 while Vidmar topped the 100 breaststroke (1:05.99).

Mammen, Vidmar, Preble, and Taylor Anderson won the 200 medley relay by four seconds with a 1:47.51.

Clovis West totaled 476.5 points while Buchanan had 315 and Clovis scored 255.

Boys

Clovis North only lost three events as Benjamin Forbes set the tone. The junior was first to the wall in the 200 (1:38.73) and 100 (45.66) freestyles. Frontier senior Colin Rabnal was runner up (1:40.79, 46.08) in both events.

Forbes was also a key relay piece for Clovis North. He led off the team’s 200 freestyle relay and was followed by Bodhi BowdenCole Fleming, and Michael Jia (20.84) as the quartet touched in 1:24.87. Samuel TaylorParker Bell, Bowden, and Forbes touched in 3:07.71 to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Jia was nearly as fast in the individual 50 free as he was anchoring the relay, winning the event in a 21.05. His teammate Fleming was runner up (21.60). Jia also won the 100 butterfly in 48.93.

Clovis North’s Ethan DePry finished in 1:53.99 for the 200 IM title. His teammate Theo Tuggle won the 500 freestyle (4:34.44) by nine seconds.

Clovis West freshman Austin Lane took control of the 100 back, stopping the clock in 51.19, three seconds ahead of second place. His teammate Joaquin Jamieson (58.14) was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke.

Lane, Jamieson, Parker Fife, and Mason Harris won the 200 medley relay (1:35.47).

At the end of the afternoon Clovis North had 533 points, Buchanan scored 486.5 and Clovis West totaled 226.5 points.
