Six-Time CIF-SDS Champion Rachel Rhee Sends Verbal Commitment to UCLA

NEW COMMIT: San Diego, Calif. native Rachel Rhee has announced her verbal commitment to stay in-state and swim for UCLA. She will join the Bruins as part of the class of 2023.

Rhee competes for La Costa Canyon High School where she is a six-time CIF San Diego Section 2 Champion, winning both the 50 free and 200 free in each of her high school seasons thus far. The NISCA and USA Swimming All-American recorded lifetime bests in the 50 free (23.05) and 200 free (1:47.47) during her junior campaign.

She also swims year-round with her club team, Rancho San Dieguito, where she is a three-time U.S. Open qualifier. Rhee is coming off a successful long course season where she finished seventh in the 50m free (26.11) while notching four new personal best times. She also raced to fourth in the 200m free (2:04.29) at the Speedo Champions Series in Santa Clara.

She told Swimming World:

“UCLA is a perfect fit for me as both a student and as an athlete. The environment is perfect for the career I want to pursue as a student-athlete and I am looking forward to be working with the coaching staff and to be apart [sic] of the UCLA family. I would have never gotten here without the support of my family, friends, coaches, and my RSD family!! GO BRUINS!!”

200 free – 1:47.47
500 free – 4:50.44
100 breast – 1:03.16
200 breast – 2:17.17

Rhee’s versatile talents will be greatly valued when she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season and could fill a number of different roles. She’ll suit up for the Bruins following the graduation of Sandra Soe and will have one season to train with Kenisha Liu, Amy Okada and Lisa Kaunitz.
