After a day of distance events, the TYR Pro Swim Series continued on Friday morning with its first prelims session from San Antonio and Richmond.

It started with the women’s events, followed by the men, who started later than expected because of a swim-off on the women’s side. The events on Friday are the 200 free, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 400 IM.

Finals will begin at 7 p.m. EST and San Antonio finals will be on Olympic Channel.

Here is a look at the men’s prelim session:

TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 200 Free

In San Antonio, a stacked field made for a big-name session. It also meant some of the big names were not going to make the top eight.

Florida’s Kieran Smith took the top spot in the 200 free, finishing in 1:48.46, the only swimmer in the field to break 1:50 in the morning.

Texas swimmers took the 2-3-5 seeds, led by Carson Foster (1:50.32), Drew Kibler (1:50.71) and Jake Foster (1:51.71).

Former Cal NCAA champion Andrew Seliskar took the fourth seed in 1:50.75.

Mitch D’Arrigo (1:51.73), Zane Grothe (1:51.77) and Townley Haas (1:51.13) rounded out the top eight.

That left well-known swimmers Jay Litherland (1:52.38), Zach Apple (1:53.19), Dean Farris (1:53.48) and Maxime Rooney (1:53.85) — and several others — outside the top eight.

In Richmond, Jeff Newkirk had the top time in 1:52.52.

TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 100 Breaststroke

Cody Miller made a strong 2021 debut with a 1:01.20 in the 100 breast to take the top seed.

Athens Bulldogs’ Nick Fink (1:01.22) and Andrew Wilson (1:01.79) took the second and third seeds, respectively.

Will Licon took the fourth seed (1:01.81), followed by Kevin Cordes (1:01.88), Tommy Cope (1:02.41), Ian Finnerty (1:02.87) and Ben Cono (1:03.43).

In Richmond, Arsenio Bustos had the top time in 1:03.54.

TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 100 Butterfly

Texas A&M’s Shaine Casas was the lone swimmer to break 52 seconds in the 100 butterfly during prelims, touching the wall in 51.91 to take the top seed.

Danny Kovac took the second seed in 53.23, followed by Club Wolverine’s Miles Smachlo (53.31).

Andrew Seliskar, doing a double, took the fourth seed in 53.60 ahead of fellow former Cal stars Tom Shields (53.75) and Ryan Murphy (53.83).

Ryan Held took the seventh seed (53.98) ahead of Zach Harting (54.04). Maxime Rooney, also doing a double, took the ninth spot at 54.49.

In Richmond, Aiden Hayes had the top time in 52.92, just ahead of Coleman Stewart (52.93).

TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 400 IM

Just seven swimmers competed in the 400 IM in San Antonio.
