2020 US Open: Ryan Lochte Wins 200 IM in Sarasota; Chase Kalisz Wins in Greensboro
The 2020 US Open Championships continued on Friday in a virtual meet format with nine sites across the country.
The times will be combined throughout the country to determine the US Open champion in each event.
Men’s 200 IM
In Greensboro’s US Open stop, Chase Kalisz went a 1:59.72 to earn the top spot. He held off Jay Litherland, who finished in 2:01.98, and Sam Hoover (2:01.65).
Ryan Lochte made a strong start to his US Open meet. Swimming for Gator Swim Club, Lochte won the 200 IM in 2:01.05 to hold off the field in Sarasota by more than a second.
It was more than three seconds off of his best time, but a strong swim in his first race in nearly a year.
Norbert Szabo took second in 2:02.86, ahead of Florida’s Kevin Vargas (2:04.20).
In Richmond, Arsenio Bustos won in 2:02.4, ahead of Landon Gentry (2:03.94).
In Indy, Raunak Khosla touched first in 2:03.19 ahead of Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics’ Kyle Maas (2:03.24).
Men’s 400 Free
In the Sarasota site of the US Open, Florida’s Kieran Smith bettered the field by more than two seconds to win the 400 free. He finished in 3:48.78, about a second off of his best time.
Florida teammates Robert Freeman (3:51.10), Alfonso Mestre (3:51.93) and Bobby Finke (3:53.30) followed.
In Indy, Marwan El Kamash followed up his 800 win with a 400 free win in 3:48.87 to hold off Kevin Callan (3:49.34) and Jake Mitchell (3:52.98).
In Greensboro, Ross Dant won the 400 free in 3:55.87 to finish ahead of teammate Eric Knowles (3:56.19).
In Richmond, Matthew Fenlon won in 3:56.34, holding off Connor Hunt (3:56.46).
Men’s 50 Free
In Greensboro’s US Open stop, Yusuke Legard took the top spot in 22.49. Nathaniel Lile was second (22.67), followed by Aaron Greenberg (22.77) and Dean Farris (22.88). Joseph Schooling was ninth (23.57).
Gator Swim Club’s Enzo Martinez Scarpe touched first in the 50 free in Sarasota 2020 US Open stop, finishing in 22.62.
Florida’s Jan Friese was second in 22.89, followed by NYAC’s Brett Fraser (23.27).
In Richmond, Alberto Mestre touched first in 22.63, followed by Colin Wright (22.77) and Christopher Guillano (22.93).
In Indy’s US Open stop, Cardinal’s Andrej Barna was first in 22.76, followed by Quintin McCarty (22.86) and Connor Boyle (22.94).
