2020 US Open: Torri Huske Scorches 2:11 200 IM in Richmond; Douglass, Osman, MacNeil win 50 Duels

The 2020 US Open Championships continued on Friday in a virtual meet format with nine sites across the country.

The times will be combined throughout the country to determine the US Open champion in each event.

Women’s 50 Free

The 50 free saw a number of big-name duels.

In Richmond, Virginia’s Kate Douglass set a school record to win in 24.99. She held off Stanford commit Torri Huske (25.72).

In Greensboro, it was Farida Osman who touched first in the 50 free. The Egyptian Olympian won in 25.10.

Claire Curzan was second in 25.23, followed by Lindsay Flynn (25.37).

All three were faster than Indy or Sarasota.

In Indy, University of Michigan swimmer Maggie MacNeil battled Mallory Comerford in the 50 free with MacNeil touching the wall first in 25.40 at the 2020 US Open.

The time was a hundredth of a second off of her best time.

Comerford touched in 25.59 to hold off Cardinal teammate Casey Fanz (25.76).

In Sarasota, Alexis Mulvhill touched first in 25.93 ahead of Marina Spadoni (25.96).

 

Women’s 400 Free

In Sarasota, Emma Weyant held off the field by four seconds to win in 4:10.38. Weyant held off Blair Stoneburg, who finished in 4:14.77.

In Richmond, Virginia’s Paige Madden won in 4:10.42, ahead of teammate Madelyn Donohoe (4:17.77).

In Indianapolis, Rachel Stege held off Ally McHugh in an extremely close 400 freestyle event. Stege touched the wall in 4:12.42, just six hundredths ahead of McHugh, who finished in 4:12.48.

In Greensboro, Ashley Twichell was first in the 400 free in 4:13.86, four seconds ahead of her field. Teammate Caroline Pennington was second in 4:17.61.

 

Women’s 200 IM

In Richmond, Stanford commit Torri Huske crushed the field to win in 2:11.18, dropping a half second from her best time.

She held off the field by nearly three seconds. Virginia’s Alex Walsh was second in 2:14.10.

Kathleen Baker cruised past the field to win the 200 IM in Indianapolis. Baker touched the wall in 2:12.97, nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Indiana Swim Club’s Mackenzie Looze finished second in 2:16.69 ahead of teammate Noelle Peplowski (2:16.71).

In Greensboro, Julia Poole won the 200 IM in 2:14.63, ahead of Reka Gyorgy (2:14.95).

In Sarasota, Weyant also swam the 200 IM, winning her site with a 2:15.36.
