The third night of finals for the 2019 Phillips 66 USA Swimming Nationals will feature only four events with the 400 IM and 100 fly as well as the women’s 4×200 free relay timed final. Maxime Rooney had a stellar morning swim in the 100 fly with a 50.68, which would have won the silver medal last week at World Championships. Rooney is the top seed in the 100 fly and will face off with a world class field with Jack Conger and Jack Saunderson surrounding him.
The women’s 400 IM is the first event of the night and it is wide open. Ally McHugh and Brooke Forde represented the United States at the World Championships last week and will have another go at this event in Palo Alto. Forde is swimming in her home pool as she will be a junior at Stanford this fall. Scotland’s Hannah Miley is the top seed with a solid 4:41 this morning but Emma Weyant, Kelly Fertel and Madisyn Cox will all have a chance to win the final.
The men’s 400 IM will be another good race with the likes of Cal junior Sean Grieshop sitting in lane four. He will have his hands full with Carson and Jake Foster, who both cruised to 4:17’s this morning. The final will also feature four current or former Florida Gators with Kieran Smith, Grant Sanders, Bobby Finke and Mark Szaranek.
Kelsi Dahlia is the top seed in the 100 fly ahead of a very young and talented field with the likes of Torri Huske, Lillie Nordmann and Claire Curzan.
Huske and Foster were recently named Swimming World’s High School Swimmers of the Year along with Luca Urlando, who will be swimming in the 100 fly A-Final.
