The second day of the 2018 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships – East continued today after a quick start in Greensboro last night.

The second day of the 2018 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships – East continued today after a quick start in Greensboro last night. The Mason Manta Rays started the meet off with a new 15-18 NAG record in the 4×200 free relay, and plenty more records came down on the second night of the meet.

Gretchen Walsh broke her own 15-16 NAG record in the 50 freestyle, while her older sister Alex Walsh broke the meet record in the 200 IM. Carson Foster from the Mason Manta Rays also added a meet record of his own in the 200 IM. The Manta Rays closed with another 15-18 NAG relay record, this time in the 4×100 medley relay.

Check out the recap of all the events below, and you can see live results for the meet here.

In second was Kate Douglass of Chelsea Piers Aquatics in 1:56.09, which was about another three-quarters of a second faster than the lifetime best she set in prelims. Just behind her in third was Isabel Ivey (1:56.13).

WOMEN’S 50 FREE

The women’s 50 free is the second event won by a Walsh sister, with Gretchen Walsh taking the top spot in the final with a 21.82 that stands as a new 15-16 NAG record. That slips .03 under her previous record of 21.85.

That just got her by top-seed Kate Douglass, who was coming off a silver medal and lifetime best performance in the 200 IM. She finished second here again in 21.95, just .08 off of her lifetime best from the morning. Douglass’ previous best had been a 22.04 from 2016.

In third was 14-year old Claire Curzan, who narrowly missed Gretchen Walsh’s own 13-14 NAG record of 22.00 with a 22.06.
