Queens’ sophomore Marius Kusch was the top seed out of the morning heats, dropping about a second from his seed time to go 1:45.47 and grab the top seed. He will be joined by two of his teammates in the championship final, juniors Inigo Alarcia and Zach Bunner, who will be the 5th and 6th seeds, respectively and try to take advantage of the close field to grab as many point as possible. There is only about one second separating the third through eighth seeds for finals in this event.

West Chester senior Victor Polyakov, last year’s NCAA champion, will go in as the 3rd seed tonight. Florida Southern was the only other school with multiple finalists in the top 8, with Matthew Holmes 4th and Antonia Nunez-Alvarez in 7th. Men’s 200 Medley Relay
Not to be outdone, the Queens team of Zach Bunner (21.74), Fedyna Rostyslav (23.83), Paul Pijulet (20.76), and Ben Mayes (19.62) set their own NCAA record in the men’s 200 medley relay prelims, posting a 1:25.95. That just snuck by Wayne State’s 2014 record of 1:26.04, making them the first Division II team to swim under 1:26.
The team from Fresno Pacific was back in second with a 1:27.90, while Grand Valley State University was third in 1:27.98. Notably, the teams from Bloomsburg and Limestone tied at 1:28.95, requiring a swim-off for who will make it into the championship final tonight.

Women’s 1000 Free Lineup
West Chester senior Theresa Hayward was the top seed out of this morning’s heats, dropping nearly 15 seconds from her seed to touch the wall in 9:54.83. Hayward was fourth in this event last year in a best time of 9:58.13, so expect her time from this morning to hold up and place her within the top 8 tonight. Bridgeport’s Annagrazia Bonsanti was the second fastest out of this morning’s heats with a 10:02.50, and may also have a chance to sneak into top 8 depending on how the championship heat places out. The top 3 finishers from this morning and top 8 seeds for tonight’s timed final can be found below:

Simon Fraser’s Mackenzie Hamill was the top finisher out of the men’s morning heats with a 9:05.80, while Queens senior and defending NCAA champion in the event Dion Dreesens was right behind him with a 9:06.07. Dreesens was the NCAA champion in this event last year with a 9:01.79 but this year had to swim in the morning heats based on his seed. While he won’t be defending his title this year, both Hamill’s and Dreesens’ times should hold up to sneak into top 8 scoring tonight.
