Morning number six of Olympic swimming began with the men’s splash and dash. Ukraine’s Andril Govorov got to the wall in the fastest time of the morning with a 21.49. American teammates Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin took second and third in the 50 freestyle prelims.

In the women’s 800 freestyle Katie Ledecky cruised to an Olympic record to take the top spot in the women’s 800 freestyle. Boglarka Kapas of Hungary and Jazz Carlin of Great Britain will enter tomorrow night’s finals in second and third.

Joseph Schooling of Singapore swam next to Michael Phelps in this morning’s 100 butterfly. The young swimmer emerged as the top qualifier, followed by Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh. Americans Tom Shields and Phelps will be third and fourth seeds tonight.

Katinka Hosszu set herself up well to leave Rio with four gold medals. The Iron Lady of Hungary touched in 2:06.09 in this morning’s 200 backstroke, over a second ahead of second qualifier Hillary Caldwell.
