Men’s 200 IM
Denison’s Jack Lindell put up the first NCAA D3 record of the meet with a swift 1:46.07 in the men’s 200-yard IM this morning at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships.
Lindell’s time cleared the previous record of 1:46.23 set by Emory’s Andrew Wilson just a year ago at the NCAA Championships.
Johns Hopkins’ Evan Holder (1:46.85) also made a run at the record, and should help push Lindell to a sub 1:46 tonight.
Kenyon’s Ian Reardon (1:48.21) and Trevor Manz (1:48.83) qualified third and fourth.
Denison’s Joe Brunk (1:49.17), Whitworth’s Wes Walton (1:49.64) and Emory’s Chandler Lichtefeld (1:50.01) rounded out the top seven.
Williams’ Tim Kostolansky (1:50.06) and Washington U’s Michael Lagieski (1:50.06) set up a swimoff for eighth.
Denison finished the event with six total point-scorers so far (3 A and 3 B), while Johns Hopkins, Emory and Kenyon each had 4 total (3 A and 1 B) finalists.

Women’s 50 free
St. Thomas’ Emma Paulson nearly lowered the NCAA D3 record in the 50 free with a 22.77. That’s just off Kirsten Nitz’s record of 22.66 set for Wheaton back in 2013. It’s also not far off the meet record of 22.71 from Elizabeth Carlton back in 2009 for Kenyon.
Emory’s Fiona Muir also moved within striking distance of the records with a second-seeded 22.88.
Denison’s Carolyn Kane (23.09), UW-Eau Claire’s Allie Hable (23.14), Emory’s Marissa Bergh (23.14), Kenyon’s Hannah Lobb (23.19), Keene State’s Alison Bartlett (23.21) and Kenyon’s Jenner McLeod (23.31) also earned spots in the A final.
Emory held the point-scoring spot lead with 8 finalists (4 A, 4 B) after the women’s 50 free. Kenyon was close behind with 7 (5 A, 2B), while Williams (4) and Denison (3) started falling behind to create a second tier.
