Women’s 400 IM
Stanford’s Ella Eastin, fresh off an American and NCAA record in the 200 IM last night, cranked out a smooth 4:03.28 this morning in the longer distance medley.
Eastin was out under American record pace at the 200 before she kept her powder dry and cruised into the 4:03 range. With a sixth-ranked lifetime best of 3:59.30 from last month, she’s likely to challenge that 3:56 and 3:57 range needed to set a record.
Eastin will be looking to add to Stanford’s NCAA record of 8 wins in the event.
Previous Stanford Winners:
1989 Michelle Griglione, Stanford, 4:12.29
1990 Janet Evans, Stanford, 4:07.59

Women’s 100 fly
Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell took a run at her NCAA and American record in the women’s 100-yard fly during prelims at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships.
Worrell raced her way to a blistering time of 49.88 that is the second fastest time ever. Worrell set the NCAA and American record with a 49.81 last year to win the NCAA title. Worrell is the only swimmer ever to have broken 50 seconds, and she’s now done it three times.

Women’s 200 free
Georgia had a strong outing in the women’s 200-yard free, grabbing the top two qualifying spots.
Brittany MacLean raced her way to the top seed in 1:43.31 with teammate Hali Flickinger just behind in 1:43.45. The two swimmers will be looking to move Georgia into a tie with Florida for the NCAA record most wins in the event (7). Georgia currently has won the event six times.
Previous Georgia Winners:
2000 Maritza Correia, Georgia, 1:57.33 *
2006 Kara Lynn Joyce, Georgia, 1:43.96
2010 Allison Schmitt, Georgia, 1:42.84
2011 Allison Schmitt, Georgia, 1:42.08
2012 Megan Romano, Georgia, 1:41.21
2013 Allison Schmitt, Georgia, 1:41.85
Georgia is not a shoo-in for the win, however, with the top eight all finishing within a second of each other to make the A final.
Stanford’s Lia Neal (1:43.56), Louisville’s Mallory Comerford (1:43.63), Indiana’s Haley Lips (1:43.79), Virginia’s Leah Smith (1:43.89), Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey (1:44.01) and Indiana’s Kennedy Goss (1:44.29) also made the championship heat.

Women’s 100 breast
Indiana’s Lilly King uncorked an NCAA, U.S. Open and American record in the women’s 100-yard breast at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships.
King raced her way to a smoking time of 57.15 for the record, breaking the 57.23 set by Breeja Larson of Texas A&M back in 2014.
Comparative Splits:
King: 26.61, 57.15 (30.54)
Larson: 27.03, 57.23 (30.20)
Considering that King dropped .20 off her previous third-ranked lifetime best of 57.35 from Big Tens last month, tonight could see an unreal barrier-breaking time under 57-seconds.
King will be looking to win Indiana’s seventh NCAA title, joining Kate Fesenko (200 back, 2010), Brooklynn Snodgrass (200 back, 2014), Kimiko Hirai (1m, 1996), Christina Loukas (3m, 2009, Cassandra Cardinell (10M, 2005) and Jessica Parratto (10m, 2015). Notably, Cardinell is in attendance judging diving for the NCAA this week.
King won’t be alone tonight as she chases the title as Stanford’s Sarah Haase moved up to fourth all time in the event’s history with a 57.73 for the second seed.

Women’s 100 back
Virginia’s Courtney Bartholomew put herself into position to win the NCAA title in the 100-yard back as she turned in a top-seeded time of 50.60. Bartholomew definitely has the potential for a special swim tonight as she’s the second-ranked swimmer of all time with a 50.01 as a relay leadoff.
Bartholomew will be looking to join Leah Smith (500 free, 2015, 2016; 1650 free 2015) and Cara Lane (1650 free, 2000, 2001) as just the third Virginia swimmer to win an NCAA title.
Stanford’s Ally Howe, the eighth-ranked swimmer in the history of the event with a 50.71 personal best, picked up the second seed in 50.85.
California’s Rachel Bootsma also posted a 50.85 to tie for the second seed. Bootsma, the two-time champion, is looking to become just the sixth swimmer to ever win the 100 back three times in a career. Bootsma has the speed as she’s the third-ranked swimmer ever behind Natalie Coughlin (49.97) and Bartholomew (50.01) with a 50.03 to win the NCAA title last year.
3-Time 100 Back Winners:
4 – Natalie Coughlin, California
3 – Lea Loveless, Stanford
3 – Betsy Mitchell, Texas
3 – Gemma Spofforth, Florida
3 – Sue Walsh, North Carolina
California’s Amy Bilquist (50.96), Tennessee’s Kira Toussaint (50.97), NC State’s Alexia Zevnik (51.13), Missouri’s Nadine Laemmler (51.14) and Stanford’s Janet Hu (51.16) will also compete for the NCAA title.
