Women’s 200 free relay
The Tennessee Lady Vols foursome of Faith Johnson (22.15), Harper Bruens (21.47), Madeline Banic (21.39) and Kira Toussaint (22.19) unleashed a pool record time of 1:27.20.
The Lady Volunteers are looking to win the 200 free relay for the first time since the program had a phenomenal 2013 meet winning most of the relays. That year, Caroline Simmons, Faith Johnson, Lindsay Gendron and Kelsey Floyd stunned NCAAs with a winning 1:27.14. Stanford and California have traded the past two wins since then.
Georgia’s Olivia Smoliga unleashed a blistering 21.47 to move up to seventh in the all-time rankings as Smoliga (21.47), Kylie Stewart (22.07), Meaghan Raab (22.11) and Emily Cameron (21.88) initially broke the pool record with a 1:27.53 in an earlier heat than Tennessee. NC State previously held the record with a 1:28.18 from last year.
Arizona’s Katrina Konopka, Annie Ochitwa, Taylor Schick and Paige Kremer raced their way into third overall in 1:27.67.
Stanford (1:27.82), USC (1:27.84), Virginia (1:28.15) and NC State (1:28.19) also made the top eight. Notably, the entire top seven cleared the previous pool record.
Notably, Kelsi Worrell’s unreal 20.84 split for Louisville wasn’t enough to get the Cardinals into the top eight as Louisville wound up ninth in 1:28.28. Worrell’s split is the second-fastest in history.

Women’s 500 free
Virginia’s Leah Smith unleashed the 16th-fastest time ever in the women’s 500-yard free at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships.
Smith, the defending champion, blasted a time of 4:31.39 as she looks to join a long list of swimmers who have won the event multiple times. Last year, Smith won the title with a 4:31.54 and moved to second all time in the event’s history behind Katie Ledecky (4:26.58) with a 4:30.37 during prelims of NCAAs.
Georgia’s Brittany MacLean is also looking to join the multiple win list after watching Smith dethrone her last year following MacLean’s win in 2014. MacLean qualified second in 4:34.61 with teammate Hali Flickinger also in the mix with a third-seeded 4:37.27. MacLean (4:32.53) and Flickinger (4:33.90) rank seventh and 13th all time in the event’s history.
Georgia is looking for its sixth program victory in the event to move behind only Stanford (7) for the most NCAA 500 free wins by a single program.
Multiple 500 Free Winners:
3 – Lindsay Benko, Southern California
3 – Marybeth Linzmeier, Stanford
3 – Allison Schmitt, Georgia
2 – Haley Anderson, USC
2 – Tami Bruce, Florida
2 – Janet Evans, Stanford
2 – Mitzi Kremer, Clemson
2 – Emily Mason, Arizona
2 – Flavia Rigamonti, SMU
2 – Cristina Teuscher, Columbia-Barnard
Michigan’s Rose Bi (4:37.78), NC State’s Hannah Moore (4:37.92), Ohio State’s Lindsey Clary (4:38.15), Louisville’s Mallory Comerford (4:28.35) and Indiana’s Haley Lips (4:38.27) also made the finale.
Georgia wound up with 3 point scorers out of the event, going two up and one down.

Women’s 200 IM
Texas’ Madisyn Cox could become just the third Longhorn to win the women’s 200-yard IM ever after she turned in a swift time of 1:54.11 this morning. Kim Rhodenbaugh (2:01.93) and Betsy Mitchell (1:59.66) are the last Longhorns to win the event, doing so in 1985 and 1987, respectively.
Stanford’s Ella Eastin, who jumped to seventh all time in the event’s history with a sizzling 1:52.77 at Pac 12s, cruised into second this morning with a 1:54.20 and should push the pace this evening. Should Stanford win, she’d increase the Cardinal NCAA record of eight program victories in the event.
California’s Kathleen Baker is looking to become the third Golden Bear to win the event alongside Caitlin Leverenz (2012-13) and Missy Franklin (2015) after qualifying third in 1:54.62.
USC’s Kirsten Vose (1:55.39), Texas A&M’s Lisa Bratton (1:55.41), California’s Kelly Naze (1:55.75), California’s Celina Li (1:55.75) and Texas A&M’s Sydney Pickrem (1:55.90) also made the top eight with Cal putting up a huge 3 A finalists with A&M picking up 2 A finalists.

Women’s 50 free
Georgia’s Olivia Smoliga, who already jumped to seventh all time in the women’s 50-yard free with a 21.47 leadoff for Georgia, cranked out a sizzling 21.48 during prelims. Smoliga is looking to reclaim her NCAA title from her freshman year when she won the 50 free in 21.59 in 2014.
Smoliga would become just the ninth swimmer to ever win the event multiple times. With Stanford’s Simone Manuel, the 2015 champion, taking the year off to focus on an Olympic bid, the door is wide open.
Multiple 50 Free Winners:
4 – Kara Lynn Joyce, Georgia
4 – Leigh Ann Fetter, Texas
3 – Catherine Fox, Stanford
2 – Maritza Correia, Georgia
2 – Jenna Johnson, Stanford
2 – Jenny Thompson, Stanford
2 – Lara Jackson, Arizona
2—Liv Jensen, California
A Smoliga win would also tie Georgia with Stanford for the most 50 free wins in NCAA history. Courtney Shealy, Maritza Correia and Kara Lynn Joyce won the other 7 titles for the Bulldogs.
Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell, who blasted the second-fastest 50 free split in history earlier today, qualified second in 21.57. That moved her up to 10th all time in the event’s history.
Ohio State’s Zhesi Li turned in a 21.63 to qualify third, and move into a logjam at 13th all time with Kara Lynn Joyce, Triin Aljand and Kasey Carlson.

Women’s 400 medley relay
Stanford picked up the top seed out of the medley relay prelims this morning with Janet Hu (51.19), Sarah Haase (57.89), Lindsey Engel (51.08) and Ella Eastin (47.94) racing their way to a 3:28.10 for the win.
Stanford is looking to add to its NCAA-record 11 wins in this event at NCAAs.
Previous Stanford Wins:
1987 Stanford (Michelle Donahue, Susie Rapp, Jenna Johnson, Aimee Berzins), 3:38.17
1990 Stanford (Dede Trimble, Lori Heisick, Suzy Buckovich, Janel Jorgensen), 3:38.84
1991 Stanford (Janel Jorgensen, Lori Heisick, Summer Sanders, Suzy Buckovich), 3:39.51
1992 Stanford (Lea Loveless, Lori Heisick, Summer Sanders, Janel Jorgensen), 3:35.64
1993 Stanford (Lea Loveless, Lori Heisick, Janel Jorgensen, Lisa Jacob), 3:37.27
1998 Stanford (Catherine Fox, Elin Austevoll, Misty Hyman, Siobhan Cropper), 3:33.61
1999 Stanford (Shelly Ripple, Elin Austevoll, Misty Hyman, Catherine Fox), 3:33.75
2001 Stanford (Shelly Ripple, Tara Kirk, Misty Hyman, Siobhan Cropper), 3:32.43
2002 Stanford (Amy Wagner, Tara Kirk, Shelly Ripple, Lacey Boutwell), 3:31.74
2014 Stanford (Maya DiRado, Katie Olsen, Felicia Lee, Lia Neal) 3:27.51
2015 Stanford (Ally Howe, Katie Olsen, Janet Hu, Simone Manuel) 3:26.41
Should Stanford win tonight, it would give the Cardinal their first three-year streak since winning four straight from 1990-93.
Louisville’s Alina Kendzior (53.06), Andee Cottrell (58.09), Kelsi Worrell (49.25) and Mallory Comerford (47.84) qualified second in 3:28.24. On the opposite end of the spectrum from Stanford, Louisville is looking for its first relay title in program history after Worrell delivered the team’s first individual titles with a 100-200 fly sweep last year.
Indiana’s Marie Chamberlain (52.75), Lilly King (56.82), Gia Dalesandro (52.23) and Kennedy Goss (48.05) qualified third with a 3:29.85, largely thanks to the smoking breaststroke split by King, who is a favorite to win an NCAA individual breaststroke title this week.
Georgia (3:29.89), USA (3:29.89), Virginia (3:30.00), Arizona (3:30.07) and Missouri (3:30.55) also earned spots in the championship final.
Courtney Bartholomew had an impressive 50.60 backstroke leadoff for Virginia.
