Genevieve Miller breaks Mountain West Record in Prelims
Air Force junior Genevieve Miller set herself up for an exciting finals session tonight with a record breaking prelim swim in the 500 free this morning on the second day of the 2016 Mountain West Conference Championship.
Miller broke her own Mountain West All Time record in the 500, posting a 4:40.30 to break her record of 4:42.47 from 2015. She will go into tonight seeded first by 4 seconds, ahead of Emma Chard of Boise State who posted a 4:44.56. Riley Spitser of San Jose State is seeded third with 4:46.64.
In the 200 IM, Samantha Wicks of Boise State claimed the top seed in 1:58.66, while Lina Rathsack of UNLV was just behind, taking second with a time of 1:59.21. Arantxa Medina of Nevada was third in 1:59.69.
In the final event of the morning, Taylor Johnson, a San Diego State senior, held out Emily Ridout of Wyoming for the top seed in the splash and dash event of the 50 free. Johnson posted a time of 22.22, while Ridout was just 5-hundredth behind in 22.27. Katelyn Martin of Boise State was third in 22.38.
Finals will begin tonight at 6:30 pm CT, and will include the 200 free relay, and 3-mtr diving finals.
