Virginia Adds Grant Murphy To Class of 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has secured a new verbal commitment for the 2025-26 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Grant Murphy of Gambrills, Maryland.

He will join Thomas Mercer, Maximus Williamson and Thomas Heilman in Charlottesville.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia. Thank you to everyone that has supported me along the way, my family, teammates, Coach Stephen, and the UVA staff. GO HOOS”

Murphy trains year-round with Annapolis Swim Club and most recently won the 200m IM and 400m IM at Buffalo Sectionals where he also took third in the 200m breast. He won the 100 back and 400 IM at Maryland Seniors where he earned top-3 finishes in four other events, too.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:48.37
  • 400 IM – 3:49.89
  • 100 back – 48.80
  • 200 back – 1:45.47
  • 200 free – 1:40.08
  • 500 free – 4:34.12
  • 1000 free – 9:31.39

Murphy is currently a junior at Crofton High School. He’s just shy of scoring range in the 400 IM at the ACC Championships.
