World Juniors Champion Maximus Williamson Gives UVA Another Big 2025 Verbal

NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has scored another big verbal commitment in a matter of hours, as Maximus Williamson of Southlake, Texas has verbaled to the Cavaliers’ Class of 2025.

Williamson owns the fastest times in the class in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 back, 200 back and 400 IM. He is the boys’ 15-16 National Age Group record holder in the 200 free, 200 back and 400 IM.

He will join Thomas Heilman in Charlottesville. Williamson and Heilman are arguably the top two recruits in their class.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia! I would like to thank the coaches and my family for giving me this opportunity and for supporting me along the way. GO HOOS”

Williamson most recently won the 100m free and 200m IM at the World Junior Championships. His time of 1:57.29 in the 200m IM broke the boys’17-18 NAG record. His 4x200m free relay split of 1:47.11 is ranked eighth all-time in 17-18 age group history, too.

He won gold medals in the 100 free, 200 free, 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM at Juniors West last December. Williamson earned gold in the 200m IM and silver in the 200m free at Junior Pan Pacs last summer.

He does his club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club.

His best times include:

  • 400 IM: 3:39.03
  • 200 back: 1:40.88
  • 100 back: 46.90
  • 100 free: 42.49
  • 200 free: 1:33.07
  • 500 free: 4:16.84
  • 50 free: 19.65
  • 200 IM: 1:42.07
  • 200 fly: 1:44.84

Currently a junior at Keller High School, Williamson won the 100 back and 200 IM during both his freshman and sophomore seasons at the Texas UIL 6A State Championships.

Williamson’s top time in the 400 IM is already fast enough to score in the A-final at the NCAA Championships. His best time in the 200 IM, which is already faster than the UVA program record, would’ve scored in the B-final.
