Katinka Hosszu Clears World Record in 400 IM at 2015 Euros (Race Video)
Katinka Hosszu wasted little time this morning at the 2015 European Short Course Championships as she downed the world record in the women’s 400-meter IM in Israel.
Hosszu clocked a top time of 4:19.46 in prelims to break the previous record of 4:19.86 set by Mireia Belmonte Garcia back in 2014.
Comparative splits:
Hosszu: 27.63, 59.19 (31.56), 1:32.01 (32.82), 2:04.32 (32.31), 2:41.88 (37.56), 3:19.75 (37.87), 3:50.06 (30.31), 4:19.46 (29.40)
Belmonte Garcia: 28.34, 1:00.02 (31.68), 1:33.70 (33.68), 2:06.53 (32.83), 2:43.30 (36.77), 3:20.27 (36.97)
3:50.40 (30.13), 4:19.86 (29.46)
That gives Hosszu a clean sweep of the IM short course records as she also owns the 100 IM (56.70) and 200 IM (2:01.86) marks.
“Ever since Mireia Belmonte broke my world record in Doha a year ago I wanted to regain it so badly. Well, I couldn’t wait with it until the afternoon… I felt the legs came together really well and since I wanted to get back the WR as soon as possible, I can say, I wasn’t surprised to make it in the morning. I don’t know if it could be better in the afternoon, however. I think I can be faster but don’t forget that the short-course season has started only a couple of weeks ago as we had the World Cups in 50m pool so the rhythm is not the same. If I have a couple of wrong turns in the afternoon, I can’t improve this time. But after all it’s not appropriate to approach the final this way: there you must race, go for the gold medal, time is secondary.” – Katinka Hosszu
