Felipe Souza Tops Qualifiers List in 100 Free at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships
Felipe Souza of Brazil topped the qualifiers list during prelims of the men’s 100-meter free with a final time of 49.64. Souza added slightly to his seed time of 49.16, a time not too far off of Caeleb Dressel’s championship meet record of 48.97 from 2013.
Souza’s teammate Pedro Spajari finished second overall in prelims posting a qualifying time of 49.90 making him the only other athlete to swim below the 50-second mark.
Russia’s Vladislav Kozlov tied with Australia’s Vincent Dai for the third place seed. Kozlov posted a time of 50.02 from heat eight, scraping .05 seconds off his seed time of 50.07, while Dai’s 50.02 came from heat nine.
[table “” not found /]Alessandro Miressi of Italy took the fifth place seed with a time of 50.06, while teammate Alessandro Bori finished sixth in prelims with a time of 50.10.
Romania’s Robert Glinta turned in a time of 50.18 to grab the seventh place seed, and Australia’s Kyle Chalmers posted a time of 50.20 to grab eighth.
USA’s Maxime Rooney (50.24), Serbia’s Andrej Barna (50.30), Canada’s Markus Thormeyer (50.31), Mexico’s Jorge Iga (50.53), Egypt’s Mohamed Samy (50.59), Russia’s Aleksei Brianskii (50.63), Canada’s Javier Acevedo (50.71), and USA’s Ryan Hoffer (50.76) complete the top sixteen.
