FINA World Junior Championships: Lisa Fissneider Breaks Top 20 in 100 Breast Victory

LIMA, Peru, August 19. SEVERAL meet records fell again at the FINA World Junior Championships, while a pair of top 25 world-ranked times went into the ledger.

Italy's Lisa Fissneider rolled to a meet record in the women's 100 breast with a 1:07.71. That performance bested her meet mark of 1:08.47 set yesterday. She moved to 16th in the world rankings with the swim. Japan's Kanako Watanabe touched second in 1:08.89, while Russia's Irina Novikova earned third in 1:09.10.

Japan's Akihiro Yamaguchi dominated the men's200 breast finale with a meet-record time of 2:11.70. That performance crushed the previous time of 2:14.78 set by Alexey Zinovyev in 2008, and shot Yamaguchi to 24th in the world rankings. Ukraine's Oleksiy Rozhkov (2:13.94), Ukraine's Maksym Shemberev (2:14.08) and USA's Chase Kalisz (2:14.13) also cleared the meet record to finish second through fourth.

Egypt's Farida Hisham Osman clipped the meet record in the women's 50 fly en route to a winning 26.69. That performance edged the 26.70 set by Vanessa Mohr yesterday. USA's Kendyl Stewart touched second in 26.78, while Mohr wound up third in 26.85.

Germany's Christian Diener won the men's 50 back in 25.59, just off his meet-record 25.58 from semis. USA's Jacob Pebley touched second in 25.75, while Italy's Niccolo Bonacchi snared third in 25.78. Canada's Brittany MacLean won the women's 400 free in 4:10.32. Australia's Bonnie Macdonald placed second in 4:11.86, while USA's Gillian Ryan wound up third in 4:12.28.

Australia's Cameron McEvoy topped the men's 50 free in 22.69, while Spain's Aitor Martinez Rodriguez finished second in 22.72. Greece's Kristian Gkolomeev earned third in 22.80. Spain's Beatriz Gomez Cortes won the women's 200 IM in 2:13.57. Japan's Emu Higuchi took second in 2:13.96, while Canada's Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson picked up third in 2:15.62.

Canada's Alec Page (1:51.64), Keegan Zanatta (1:51.16), Omar Arafa (1:51.20) and Chad Bobrosky (1:48.95) won the men's 800 free relay in 7:22.95. China's Qiu Yinghua (1:51.97), Pu Wenjie (1:50.20), Li Xiang (1:50.65) and Mao Feilian (1:50.46) placed second in 7:23.28. Poland's Pawel Werner, Filip Bujoczek, Michal Poprawa and Radoslaw Bor rounded out the podium in 7:24.09.

In semifinal racing, Ukraine's Daryna Zevina downed the meet record in the women's 50 back with a 28.60. That swim beat the 28.83 set by Grace Loh in 2008. USA's Olivia Smoliga (29.09) and Turkey's Hazal Sarikaya (29.11) qualified second and third. USA's Maclin Davis led the men's 50 fly qualifying with a 24.12, while Croatia's Mihael Vukic qualified second in 24.20. Italy's Martino Lucatello earned third in 24.69.
