Ros Brett Announces Retirement -- April 30, 2007

LOUGHBOROUGH, England, April 30. BRITISH swimmer Ros Brett has announced her retirement from the sport after more than 15 years of competition. Brett is a European Championships gold medalist as part of her country's medley relay title-winning team in 2006. She also won six international medals as part British relays.

"I was thinking of retiring after the 2006 Commonwealth Games but I felt I still had more to give," Brett said. "I couldn't think of a better competition to finish at than the World Championships. It was a great meet but I was disappointed to have not come away with a medal.

"I have been pleased with my swimming career overall though," Brett continued. "My highlight was reaching an Olympic final - the atmosphere and the experience was amazing. Gaining my World Championship silver was also a particular high point for me."

Brett will remain involved in the sport as she begins work as an ASA Business Manager for British Swimming.

"This is a great move for me," Brett said. "This role means that I can stay involved with the sport and help encourage more people to take it up. I have taken my Level 1 Teaching qualification so I have a better understanding of what swimming teachers need. I am really excited about being involved in a different aspect of the sport. Swimming is a great way of keeping fit for people of all ages, but through this job I can also help to improve the levels of teaching for all children."

Special thanks to British Swimming for contributing this report.
