Zurich Grand Prix: More Swiss Records Fall

ZURICH, Switzerland, March 20. THE second night of long course swimming at the Zurich Grand Prix featured some more national records taking a fall.

Flori Lang broke the 25-second barrier for the first time in the men's 50 back to lower his national record. Lang clocked a 24.84 to beat his 25.18 set last March. Ralph Madoerin (26.54) and Lukas Raeuftlin (27.15) completed the podium.

Ivana Gabrilo won the women's 50 back with a 29.48, after setting the national record with a 29.39 during prelims. The effort bested the 29.48 set by Dominique Diezi in 2001. Laetitia Perez (29.54) and Adriana Crovetto (29.89) finished second and third behind her.

Patrizia Humplik lowered her national record with a 1:09.61 during prelims, to smash her 1:10.62 set in 2007 in the women's 100 breast. Humplik then won the event with a 1:10.05 during finals. Carmela Schlegel (1:10.41) and Corinne Meier (1:11.68) touched second and third.

Martin van Berkel completed the night with a national record time of 2:10.36 in the women's 200 fly. Maria Ugolkova (2:18.94) and Sara Gaffuri (2:22.36) clinched second and third.

Dominik Meichtry began the night with a winning time of 1:48.74 in the men's 200 free, while David Karasek took second in 1:50.73. Duncan Furrer placed third in 1:52.05. Maria Ugolkova grabbed the women's 200 free title in 2:02.83, while Seraina Pruente (2:04.50) and Swann Oberson (2:04.72) took second and third.

Benjamin Le Maguet claimed the men's 100 breast title in 1:03.34. Martin Schweizer (1:04.19) and Yannick Kaeser (1:04.28) rounded out the top three. Alexandre Liess then won the men's 200 fly in 2:02.14, while Matthias Sigrist (2:02.40) and Nico Van Duijn (2:04.53) touched second and third.
