Zippy Invitational Day Two

AKRON, Ohio, December 1. AFTER a solid outing by Zips divers the University of Akron women's swimming and diving team remains in sixth place with 725 points after day two of the Zippy Invitational.

Junior Katie Carter posted the top score of 319.60 in the 3-meter diving earning her first place. Freshmen Amanda Angeloff (235.25) and Jayne Malloy (222.20) earned fourth and sixth place in the finals. Fellow freshman Jacquie Paumier earned a tenth spot. On the night UA divers earned 99 of the team points.

Sophomore Kendall Karchner and senior Lauren Wichert earned fourth and fifth place in the third heat of the 100-yard backstroke. Karchner swam a 59.32 and Wichert swam 16/100ths of a second faster than she did in her preliminary qualifying time this morning (59.48).

Sophomore Lauren Parr posted 4:34.70 in the third heat of the 400-yard individual medley earning a third place nod. Swimming in heat two was freshman Julie Reynolds who set a new personal record of 4:39.79. Her previous personal best she set this morning in the preliminaries swimming a 4:42.16.

Posting a 1:00.41 was junior Emily Bulkowski who earned a spot in the second heat of the 100-yard butterfly finals. Also in the finals swimming in heat one were sophomores Cathryn Collins (1:00.13) and Kylie Bombrys (1:00.90) and freshman Brigid Wolf (1:00.41).

Representing the Zips in the 100-yard breaststroke finals was junior Cheri Baratto and sophomore Stephanie Zielinski. They placed second and third in the second heat swimming times of (1:08.53) and (1:08.62.) Freshman Jasmine Craft swam in the first heat with a time of 1:10.56.
