Zippy Invitational Day One

AKRON, Ohio, November 30. THE University of Akron swimming and diving team is in sixth place after day one of the Zippy Invitational. The meet hosting 18 teams held men's and women's finals tonight in 12 events. The Zips who placed swimmers in each of the women's finals finished day-one with a team score of 330 points.

Three divers qualified for the 1-meter diving finals. Scoring 270.95 was junior Katie Carter who took home the bronze. Freshmen Jayne Malloy and Amanda Angeloff placed in sixth (199.80) and eighth (189.50) place respectively.

Sophomore Stephanie Zielinski swam a 24.18 in the 50-yard freestyle securing a third place spot. Senior Lauren Wichert who swam a personal best this morning in the preliminaries swam a 24.56 for a eighth place spot this evening.

In the 200-yard individual medley sophomore Lauren Parr placed sixth with a time of 2:10.28. Freshman Julie Reynolds took home 11th place swimming a time of 2:12.40. Junior Emily Bulkowski took the 19th spot tying her qualifying time from the preliminaries this morning (2:13.65).

The 400-yard medley relay consisting of sophomore Kendall Karchner, junior Cheri Baratto, Parr and Zielinksi took seventh place swimming with a time of 4:00.33.
