Born in Madison, Alabama, Harting now lives and trains in Louisville, Kentucky. Harting earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Management, all while swimming for the Cardinals and maintaining a GPA of 3.88.

In 2017, Harting had an outstanding summer season placing sixth in the 100m and 200m fly at the World Championship Trials, giving him a spot on the 2017 World University Games Roster. At the meet, he won a gold medal as part of the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays and was a semifinalist in the 200m and 100m butterfly.

Harting qualified for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, his first USA “A” team ever, by finishing second in the 200m butterfly at the 2018 National Swimming Championships. “Zach is a really fun and smart guy and is one of the best 200 butterfly swimmers in the world. It has been fun to watch his success continue and we’re hoping to see him earn a spot for Tokyo 2021. Zach also loves the Rival 2.0, our tech suit that was developed with the assistance of our athlete, Anthony Ervin,” said FINIS Co-Founder, John Mix.

Harting is set to compete at the 2021 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska this June. Keep your eyes out for Zach in the 100m and 200m butterfly, as well as the 200m IM. Swim fast and remember, go #TeamFINIS!
