YMCA Short Course National Championships: Second Evening Features More YMCA Standards

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 7. THE second evening of swimming at the YMCA Short Course National Championships featured much of the same from the first evening – new YMCA records going into the books.

Middle Tyger's Haley Lips clocked another YMCA record with a sterling time of 53.28 in the 100 fly. That performance beat the 53.67 set by Janel Jorgensen of Wilton Family back in 1988.

Lips also was part of Middle Tyger's 400 free relay YMCA record time of 3:24.21. The foursome of Lips, Addie Carne, Annie Gillig and Laura Simon beat the 1988 time of 3:24.28 set by Jorgensen's Wilton Family squad.

In other women's action, Margo Geer of Springfield added another title with a 1:47.21 in the 200 free. Meanwhile, Sarasota's Corinne Showalter clinched the 1000 free crown in 9:41.24. Greensburg's Laura Gorinski snared the 200 breast in 2:15.90.

For the men, Marietta's Tim Phillips earned a YMCA record time in the 100 fly. He dropped a time of 46.96 to wipe out the 47.46 set by M.E. Lyons' Jayme Cramer in 2000.

Schroeder's Ryan Hansen, Mitchell Friedemann, Graham Carlton and Francisco Vital crushed the YMCA record in the 400 free relay with a 3:01.34. That time smashed the 3:03.14 set by Wilton Family back in 2005.

Montgomery's Woody Joye claimed the 200 free in 1:36.65, while Sarasota's John Orban won the 1000 free in 9:04.75. New Canaan's Christian Higgins won the 200 breast in 2:00.63, the same time Red Bank's Harrison Cefalo posted for the top time in prelims. Cefalo, however, settled for second at night with a 2:00.95.
