YMCA Short Course National Championships: Final Night Features Few More YMCA Records

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 9. THE final night of swimming at the YMCA Short Course National Championships featured a few more YMCA national records falling.

Middle Tyger's Laura Simon captured the women's 1650 free title with a time of 16:21.77, while Greenwich's Emily Weir won the women's 100 breast in 1:03.15. Notably, Montgomery's Laura Johnson posted the top time of the day in the event with a 1:03.03 during prelims.

Middle Tyger's Haley Lips kept her great meet going with a win in the women's 200 fly. She claimed the title going away in 1:58.41.

Sarasota's Katheryne Muth, Ashlee Linn, Corinne Showalter and Hayley Tilton won the women's 200 free relay in 1:34.68, while Middle Tyger's Annie Gillig, Monica Milici, Lips and Simon posted a 3:44.38 in the women's 400 medley relay to break the YMCA record. The swim cleared the 3:45.71 set by Houston back in 1993.

York's Chris Kramer clinched the men's 1650 yard in 15:20.72, while Schroeder's William Colbert crushed the men's 100 breast YMCA record with a 54.27. The performance wiped out the 54.76 set by Harrisburg's Jeremy Linn.

Meanwhile, Green Bay's Luke Bushman earned the men's 200 fly crown in 1:46.07.

In relay action, Schroeder's Ryan Hansen, Mitchell Friedemann, Colbert and Francisco Vital won the men's 200 free in 1:23.03, while the squad of Friedemann, Colbert, Vital and Hansen posted a YMCA record time of 3:18.89 to win the men's 400 medley. That effort crushed the 3:21.05 set by M.E. Lyons back in 2001.
