YMCA Short Course Championships: YMCA Record Bonanza on Third Night

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 8. THE third evening of the YMCA Short Course Championships witnessed even more YMCA records taking a tumble.

Anne Arundel's Emily Lloyd and Springfield's Margo Geer put on a show in the women's 100 free by dead-heating at 49.02. The times wiped out the YMCA record of 49.23 set back in 1998 by Stefanie Williams of Bloomsburg.

Middle Tyger's Annie Gillig dropped the hammer in the women's 200 back with a time of 1:55.45. The readout crushed the former record of 1:58.13 set by Tricia Weaner of West Shore back in 2004.

Sarasota's Corinne Showalter tracked down the women's 400 IM YMCA record with a time of 4:12.76. The performance eclipsed the 4:13.00 set by West Shore's Leah Gingrich last year.

Middle Tyger's Haley Lips, Addie Carne, Gillig and Laura Simon won the women's 800 free relay in a YMCA-record time of 7:18.09. That time beat the 7:23.46 set in 2007.

Marietta's Tim Phillips knocked off the YMCA record in the men's 100 free with a time of 44.11. The clocking erased the 44.51 set by Evan Reed of Upper Main Line last year.

Bath Area's James Wells followed with a triumphant time of 1:46.94 in the men's 200 back, while Montgomery's Woody Joye clinched the men's 400 IM title in 3:50.33.

Meanwhile, Sarasota's team of Nicholas Caldwell, John Orban, Patrick Ceddia and Mark Cox won the men's 800 free relay in a YMCA-record time of 6:38.95. The time beat the 6:43.02 set by M.E. Lyons back in 2004.
