Xavier v. Butler

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Xavier women's swim team wrapped up the 2007-08 regular season with a 54-39 win over Butler on Senior Day in the O'Conner Sports Center. XU women set three pool records in addition to a pool record set by the men's team in an intrasquad scrimmage during the last dual meet of the season.

"The team came out strong again today," said head coach Steve Riegler. "We had a lot of the women swim very well, especially since it was our last meet of the year and coming off a meet the previous night. We set a few pool records with Kari Peglar in the 200 free, Mary Catherine Mahon in the 200 back, and the 800 free relay of Peglar, Suba, Johnson, and Mahon."

Xavier had first place finishes in eight out of the 11 events that took place in Saturday. Freshman Kari Peglar set a new pool record in the 200 freestyle event after turning in a first-place finishing time of 1:53.98. Junior Mary Catherine Mahon also notched a new pool record with her time of 2:08.07 in the 200 backstroke event.

The foursome of Peglar and Mahon along with sophomores Elaina Suba and Alison Johnson set the third pool record of the meet with their time of 7:50.14.

The men's team did not compete today but did participate in some intrasquad events. The team of senior Matt Krouse, Junior Patrick McGrath, Sophomore Mickey Hafertepe and freshman Nathan Green set a pool record in the 800 freestyle event as well.

Special thanks to Xavier for contributing this report.
