Wyoming vs. Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, February 4. THE University of Wyoming Cowgirl Swimming and Diving team dominated in Moby Pool against Colorado State on Friday night defeating the Rams 189-111.

The victory over the Rams (5-7, 2-6 Mountain West Conference) brings the Cowgirls record to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the MWC.

The Cowgirls won the first six events of the dual and cruised their way to winning a total of 14 events against CSU.

"We were hoping to come down here and win most of the events and we did that," Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson said. "We really dominated from the get go with our best medley relay of the year."

Wyoming's ‘A' 200 yard medley relay team of Kelsey Conci, Lesley Young, Shelby Bull and Morgan Hartigan grabbed the first win of the day for UW with a time of 1:43.74, and they never looked back. The Cowgirls followed the 200 medley relay with five consecutive event wins. Cowgirl Lizzie Justice won the 1000 freestyle (10:36.75), Bull won the 200 free (1:52.25), Conci won the 100 backstroke (55.24), Young won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.32) and Stephanie Vint won the 200 butterfly (2:06.61).

"In my 13-years here I don't think we have ever beat them in the 100 back," Johnson added. "It was great for Kelsey to beat (Breann) Fuller in that she is a previous conference champion."

In the 50 freestyle Hartigan (24.13) was just touched out by CSU's Samantha Dole (24.00) which was the Cowgirls first defeat of the day.

After the first defeat of the night UW would go on to win five of the next six events. Conci earned her second win of the night in the 100 free (51.99). Young also picked up her second win of the night in the 200 breast (2:20.51). In the 500 freestyle Vint grabbed her second win of dual with a time of 5:07.12. Following Vint, Bull won her second event win in the 100 fly (56.58).

Also earning a victory for the Cowgirls in the 200 individual medley was Jessy Badaracco with a time of 2:07.92.

In the final event of the evening Cowgirls; Conci, Vint, Mackenzie Hewson and Bull, won the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.11).

In today's diving rounds, Cowgirl Allie Smith swept both the 1-and 3-meter springboards. Smith won the 1-meter springboard with a mark of 274.20 and the 3-meter with a mark of 310.20.

"I was really impressed with Allie today," Johnson added. "She has been battling some injuries and to come out and sweep both boards is awesome."

Tomorrow, Feb. 5 the Cowgirls and the Cowboys will welcome the Air Force Flacons to Corbett Pool for Senior Day. The first round of diving will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the dual set to start at 1 p.m.
