World Military Games: China’s Zhou Yafei Posts Quick 50 Fly During Third Day

HYDERABAD, India, October 18. AFTER taking a day off, the World Military Games returned full force with a third-day of competition in Hyderabad, India.

Ukraine's Sergiy Breus, who clocked the fourth-fastest 50 fly time in the world this year with a 23.53 in Melbourne, emerged from a battle with Russia's Nikolay Skvortsov, 24.15 to 24.21. Meanwhile, Germany's Leif Marten Krueger placed third in 24.90. In the women's side of the event, China's Zhou Yafei nearly equaled her top time this year of 26.67 set at Worlds with a winning effort of 26.68 in the women's 50 fly. Germany's Daniela Samulski took second in 27.03, while Russians Irina Bespalova and Vasilis Vladyina tied for third with matching 27.88s.

In the 200 freestyle, Germany's Robert Koenneker hit the wall first in 1:50.56, while Latvia's Romans Mloslavskis (1:51.04) and Romania's Dragos Coman (1:51.09) completed the top three. Additionally, Russia's Darya Belyakina earned her third medal of the meet, after a Games-record in the 200 IM and a bronze in the 400 free, when she surfaced with a win in the 200 free in 2:00.04. China's Li Xue (2:01.33) and Romania's Camelia Potec (2:02.14) placed second and third, respectively.

Austria's Maxim Podoprigora shot down a pair of breaststroke stars with a 200-distance time of 2:15.18 to defeat Russia's Grigory Falko (2:15.30) and Ukraine's Oleg Lisogor (2:16.35). Meanwhile, China's Qi Hui stopped the clock in 2:29.23 to win the women's 200 breast, while Russia's Elena Bogomazova (2:32.80) and Ukraina's Yuliya Pidlisna (2:37.82) rounded out the podium.
