Women’s Water Polo Semifinals Set at Pan American Games
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 19. FOLLOWING several days of intense pool play, the women's water polo semifinals have been set at the Pan American Games.
The United States, which went 5-0 throughout early play with a plus-46 goal differential, will face Cuba in one side of the bracket. Cuba is the fourth seed and went 1-3-1 during pool play with a minus-13 goal differential. The U.S. dominated Cuba in the teams' early match-up, 14-6.
On the other side of the bracket, Canada drew the second seed with a 3-1-1 record and a plus-32 goal differential. The Canadians will face third seed Brazil, which went 3-2 with a plus-12 goal differential during preliminary play. Canada claimed the head-to-head match, 5-2, over Brazil during pool play.
In the fifth-and-sixth place classification match, Puerto Rico (1-4) will face Venezuela (1-4).
