Day Five Finals (Women’s 4×200 Free Relay)

The start lists for the women’s 4×200 free relay were made available prior to the Day 5 finals session in Gwangju, South Korea at the FINA World Swimming Championships. USA’s Katie Ledecky will be swimming the second leg for the Americans as she will be swimming her first race in two days. Ledecky will line up alongside Simone ManuelMelanie Margalis and Katie McLaughlin. This will be the first time since 2013 that Ledecky will not be swimming the anchor leg for the Americans’ 4×200 free relay.

Australia are the top seeds while the United States sits in second. Australia has never won this event at the World Championships and the Americans are going for their fifth straight gold in the event. The Aussies will be tough to beat with Ariarne TitmusMadison WilsonBrianna Throssell and Emma McKeon.

The gold medal is expected to come between the Americans and the Australians but China and Canada will factor into the medals as well. Canada will bring in Penny Oleksiak and Taylor Ruck into their team as Ruck will swim second and Oleksiak will anchor. China will also have world junior record holder Yang Junxuan leading off their relay as well as 1500 bronze medalist Wang Jianjiahe.
