New Commit: The Emory Eagles received a verbal commitment from Ryan Gibbons for the fall of 2020. Gibbons hails from the Blue Dolfins in Winter Springs, Florida and has qualified to swim at the Winter Junior Nationals, where he was as high as 64th in the 400 IM. Primarily a 400 IMer and distance freestyler, Gibbons will provide valuable depth in those events to Emory for head coach Jon Howell, who would have likely finished in the top three at NCAAs this season if the meet had not been cancelled.

Gibbons helped his high school Oviedo win the FHSAA 4A State Championships by placing third in the 200 IM (1:51.72) and sixth in the 500 free (4:35.93).

Regarding his commitment:

“I’m so excited to be swimming at Emory University in the fall! The academics are incredible, the school is beautiful – but what made the difference for me was a sense of community, belonging, and purpose that each and every member of the Emory community and the Emory Swimming & Diving family exhibited from the moment I first met them.

“I am incredibly thankful to Coach Jon and the entire Emory community for granting me this incredible opportunity to join this family. I am also so thankful for my friends and family for all of their support, my amazing teammates for always being by my side and pushing me to be my best, and my incredible coaches who have truly made me who I am today – not just as a swimmer, but as a person.

“I am so excited to experience these next four years and to go into them with such an incredible group of people – Go Eagles!!!”

  • 200 IM: 1:51.72 / 2:12.53

Emory qualified 16 men’s swimmers to NCAAs in 2020 and will only be losing one senior from that squad in sprinter Sage Ono. The Eagles will be bringing Logan D’AmoreWill Kerscher, Kory Kimura and Jake Meyer to campus this fall.
