William and Mary Men Break Relay Record At CAA Championships

Night two of the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association men and women’s Swimming and Diving Championships saw some fast swims.

2017 CAA Championships Day 2 Finals – Results

Women’s 500 Free:

James Madison’s Kristie Darmody won the first event of the night. The freshman posted a time of 4:51.61 for the win at her first college conference meet.

William and Mary’s Maria Oceguera finished a close second in 4:52.14 while her teammate Morgan Smith took third in 4:54.89.

Men’s 500 Free:

Sophomore Carter Kale, in his first season with William and Mary, won the men’s 500 free by over one second. He posted a final time of 4:24.73.

Towson’s Brandon Ress finished second in 4:25.96 while William and Mary’s Ian Tidwell took third in 4:26.70.

Women’s 200 IM:

James Madison won their second event of the night, this time in the women’s 200 IM. Senior Shannon Harper used a strong breaststroke leg to take the win in 2:01.78.

Towson’s Kendall Krumenacker swam to second in 2:02.11 while James Madison’s Katie Parker finished a close third in 2:02.26.

Men’s 200 IM:

Drexel’s Jason Arthur won the men’s 200 IM by just over one second. The freshman’s final time of 1:45.92 set a new meet and league record set back in 2015.

William and Mary’s Ben Skopic finished second in 1:47.02 while Towson’s Jack Sanderson rounded out the top three in 1:49.20.

Women’s 50 Free:

William and Mary teammates-and sisters-took the top two spots in the women’s sprint event. Older sister and senior Jaimie Miller won the race in 22.35, only .05 off the meet and league record.

Younger sister and sophomore Annie Miller followed her sister, taking second in 22.93. Drexel’s Rachael Bernhardt took third in 23.21.

Men’s 50 Free:

William and Mary, who had six swimmers in the men’s 50 free A-Final, took spots 1-4 on the podium. They were led by freshman Colin Wright, who was the only swimmer to break 20 seconds. He finished in 19.96.

Wright’s teammates Jack Doherty (20.16) and Tommy Kealy (20.22) completed the top three.

Men’s 1m Diving:

UNCW’s Allen Crosby was the only diver to exceed 300 points. The redshirt-junior won the men’s 1m diving event with a score of 313.45.

Drexel’s Anthony Musciano dove to second with 295.75 points and his teammate Michael Binkauskas finished third with a score of 260.20.

Women’s 200 Free Relay:

William and Mary dominated tonight’s relay, winning by nearly two seconds. The team of J. Miller (22.37), A. Miller (22.79), Emma Herold (23.04), and Katie Sell (22.75) won in 1:30.95.

Drexel swam to second in 1:32.91 and James Madison finished third in 1:33.27.

Men’s 200 Free Relay:

William and Mary concluded the night by winning the men’s 200 free relay by over two seconds. The team of Wright (20.12), Doherty (19.51), Kealy (19.55), and Joseph Eiden (19.85) touched the wall in 1:19.03, clipping the old mark set back in 2013 by .05.

Drexel finished second in 1:21.41 and UNCW took third in 1:22.22.
