Will Licon is often very aware of what his competition is doing during a race, but in his history-making 200 IM swim in finals at the NCAA championships, he made a point to keep his attention squarely focused in his own lane. In an interview with the media after the race, he said he wasn’t aware of Nolan’s tactics but instead concentrated on each stroke in one of the most stacked fields the NCAA has produced.

He also discussed swimming in his first relay at the NCAA championships, which resulted in an NCAA and U.S. Open record.
