Who’s Going Home? Final Two ISL Playoff Spots On The Line In Naples

The next match of the International Swimming League (ISL) will be an elimination affair, with the final two playoff berths in the Season Three postseason on the line. In action on Wednesday and Thursday in Naples, the Tokyo Frog Kings, Team Iron, D.C. Trident and New York Breakers will vie for the seventh and eighth positions in November’s playoffs.

Through the ISL’s 10-match regular season, six teams automatically secured invitations to the postseason, which will be held in Eindhoven. The bottom-four teams in the standings were sent to a one-match showdown that will determine who extends their campaigns and who is sent home early. Already qualifying for the playoffs are Energy Standard, Cali Condors, London Roar, L.A. Current, Toronto Titans and the Aqua Centurions.

According to the ISL website, the meet will start at 1 p.m. in Italy, which means a 7 a.m. start on the East Coast in the United States. Once the remaining two teams for the playoffs are determined, the ISL will take a five-week hiatus before the postseason begins in the Netherlands on November 11. Six matches are scheduled for the playoffs, with the top four teams advancing to the championship round in January at a site to be determined.

Look for Zach Apple to lead the D.C. Trident while two-time Olympic champion Yui Ohashi is the headliner for the Tokyo Frog Kings. Team Iron will lean on sprint star Ranomi Kromowidjojo while the New York Breakers have received steady contributions from Abbie Wood.
