Whitby Dolphins Coach Trent McNicol Charged With Alleged Sexual Assault

WHITBY, Ontario, April 19. ACCORDING to CTV News in Canada, Trent McNicol has been charged with “alleged sexual assault and exploitation of one of his students several years ago.” McNicol, 42, had been the head coach of the Whitby Dolphins since 2007. The arrest took place last Friday. A year later, McNicol was cleared of all charges.

The article reports that local police started an investigation into McNicol “after a former pupil came forward claiming they had been touched in an inappropriate manner between 2005 and 2007.”

“The Whitby Dolphins Swim Club is fully cooperating with law enforcement officers during this investigation,” president Jean Francois Potvin said in a statement. “We feel that every child that sets foot onto our pool decks has the right to a safe environment and that every parent should feel confident that competent and model citizens look after their child.”

McNicol has been relieved of his duties with the Dolphins. His resume includes an Ontario swim coach of the year award in 2001.
