WFW Racing Launches Showdown-Based Event; Signs Shaine Casas, Brian Benzing
WFW Racing, short for World’s Fastest in Water, has signed Shaine Casas and Brian Benzing to initial-event agreements as it builds the opening race card for its planned 2027 debut.
The format of the venture centers on three-athlete matchups over 25, 50 and 100 metres, presented as a single-night race card rather than a traditional multi-day meet. With no heats or preliminaries, the emphasis is on the athletes, the head-to-head competition and the significance of each result.
Under WFW’s planned competition structure, results will feed into WFW rankings and future title opportunities, with one WFW title per stroke, per gender. The aim is to connect individual events through rivalries, rematches and the pursuit of a title.
Athlete walkouts, interviews and behind-the-scenes storytelling are central to the presentation. WFW is being designed for both a live audience and viewers on screen, giving fans the context behind each matchup and a reason to follow the athletes beyond race night.
Founded by former Canadian National Team swimmer Karl Wolk, WFW aims to create additional professional opportunities for established swimmers and emerging talent through paid appearances, competition and athlete focused content. Equal opportunities for men and women to compete, earn and build their profiles are central to WFW’s mission.
The longer-term ambition is to develop a recurring international series, with destination venues forming part of that vision. International hosting and commercial discussions are ongoing. Further athlete signings, matchups and event details will be announced as agreements are finalized.
