NEW COMMIT: Westin Fishel, a freestyler from Dublin, Ohio has chosen to spend his collegiate career at John Carroll University, in University Heights, Ohio. Fishel swims for United Swim Association.

He told Swimming World about his decision,

“John Carroll is a beautiful campus with a charismatic, inclusive swim team. A Boler business degree will land me a successful career, and I am ecstatic to except my role as a championship caliber swimmer on the best team in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Go Blue Streaks!!!”

His best times are:

  • 50 Free 21.84
  • 100 Free 48.69
  • 200 Free 1:45.54

Last year John Carroll won the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship for the first time in 12 years. As the team looks to build on that momentum, Fishel should be a point scoring contributor. His best 100 free time would have been 11th last year. The team had two finalists last year. Freshman Matthew Ramsey (45.68) won the event and sophomore Tom Pacak (47.57) was sixth. Fishel would have been ninth in the 50 free in 2017. Ramsey won that event while sophomores Jack Garros (21.15- third), Ryan Singler (21.87- ninth), and Peter Neal (22.20-13th) also scored. That group of men will all still be on campus next fall, forming an excellent training group for Fishel.

He should also be fighting for relay spots as well. Last year John Carroll won the 200 freestyle relay, but touched second in the 400 freestyle relay and third in the 800 freestyle relay.
