Western Kentucky Swims Past FIU, 159-76

MIAMI, Florida, October 27. THE Western Kentucky University women's swimming and diving team claimed the top three spots in seven of eleven events in its dual meet with Florida International Friday at the Bay Vista Aquatic Center. Those top finishes helped WKU defeat the Golden Panthers, 159-76.

The Lady Toppers (2-0) started the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay (1:48.86) swam by Stephanie Terrell, Kelly Hargather, Julia Meredith, and Megan Rames. Tessa Weghorst (10:52.70), Marissa Heebner (10:56.96), and Cate Morgan (11:00.41) followed the relay squad by finishing first-second-third, respectively, in the 1,000 Free.

Rames recorded a first-place finish in the 50 Free (24.51) and Kathryn Sutton was first in the 200 Individual Medley (2:12.82).

Sophomore Jessica Aspinall recorded a 54.42 in the 100 Free, which was fastest among the field, while Elizabeth Peterson (1:01.41) edged out teammate Sam Sawzak (1:01.50) for first-place in the 100 Back.

Freshman Brittany Allen (5:09.58) was victorious in the 500 Free in front of second-place finisher Courtney Sorrell (5:14.28) and Jennifer Johnson (5:18.08), who came in third.

Erica Wilson earned 217.875 points to lead all divers in the 3-meter event.
