West Virginia Tops Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio, January 21. WEST Virginia's swimming and diving teams defeated Cincinnati at the Keating Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats men fell, 184-132, and the women were topped, 201-114.

Marcel Kleiner was the top performer for UC, winning the 200 free and anchoring the winning 800 free relay team, then finishing second in the 50 and 100 free races. Bjorn Mates was also a part of the winning relay team and placed first in the 100 back and second in the 200 back.

Jeremy Peter led off the 800 free relay team and posted second-place finishes in the 200 and 400 IMs. Jakub Carda was the other event-winner, finishing first in the 400 IM.

The women recorded seven second-place finishes. Randi Vogel was second in the 200 back and 200 IM and took part in the 200 medley and 800 free relay teams that finished second. Gerdien de Jong was a part of both relay teams and was second in the 50 free.

The teams close the home portion of their schedule when they host Kentucky on Friday, Jan. 26 at the Keating Aquatics Center at 4 p.m.
