West Virginia Adds Liz Schoborg to Coaching Staff

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia, August 9. WEST Virginia University swimming and diving coach Vic Riggs has announced the addition of Liz Schoborg to the staff as an assistant coach.

“The team, staff and I are excited to welcome Liz to the Mountaineer swimming and diving family,” Riggs says. “Liz comes to WVU with not only a solid background in collegiate coaching, but also as a successful Division I athlete. She will use that to challenge our athletes to succeed at the high level.

“Her energy and excitement for the sport was very apparent on her interview and I look forward to having her inject that emotion into our program.”

Schoborg joins the Mountaineers after spending two successful seasons at New Mexico State as an assistant coach.

Schoborg helped the Aggies to 20 school records and 17 NCAA provisional times, while Aliena Schmidtke was named the WAC Freshman of the Year following the 2011-12 campaign and became the second Aggie in school history to swim at the NCAA Championships. During the 2010-11 season, Tricia Kiss was named the WAC Freshman of the Year, a first in program history.

“I am very excited to come to WVU and work with Vic and the other members of the coaching staff,” Schoborg says. “This is a very exciting time for the University with the move to the Big 12 and I am looking forward to working with the team as they build on the success they have had.”

Prior to New Mexico State, Schoborg was an assistant coach at Xavier for the 2009-10 season, while also serving as a senior assistant coach for the Cincinnati Aquatic Club from 2008-10.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Schoborg was a two-time Big 12 Performer of the Year and team captain as a sprint free and fly specialist at Missouri. She is a former school record holder in the 100 fly and was a part of several Tiger relay records.

She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Missouri in 2007.
