Washington State Women Bounce Idaho, Boise State

PULLMAN, Washington, January 27. SENIOR Erin McCleave captured three events to lead Washington State's swimming team to victories over Idaho and Boise State, Saturday at Gibb Pool.

The Cougars defeated the Vandals 159-45 and posted a 103-56 win over the Broncos.

McCleave won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:12.99 and followed with a victory in the day's next event, the 200 freestyle (1:51.61). Her third victory came in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.74.

"Erin (McCleave) getting in a 1,000 and 200 freestyle double shows she is on track going into Pac-10s," Washington State Head Swimming Coach Erica Quam said. "Overall it was good to get in another week of racing. We are building on the little skills and we are still taking steps forward."

Senior Kayli Changstrom and freshman Shawna Keller each posted a pair of wins for the Cougars. Changstrom's wins came in the 200 butterfly (2:09.47) and 500 freestyle (5:09.62). Keller earned her victories in the 200 IM (2:09.97) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.96).

"I'm excited about how Shawna (Keller) and Kayli (Changstrom) are progressing," Quam said. "Getting them in different events and seeing them improve is good."

Washington State took both the 400 medley (3:58.02) and 200 freestyle (1:38.29) relays and completed the sweep of events with wins by Jamie MacLeod (24.95 in the 50 freestyle), Lindsay Backhouse (1:00.66 in the 100 butterfly), Michaela Ahlin (53.20 in the 100 freestyle), Bryn Mooney (1:00.01 in the 100 backstroke) and Monika Povilonyte (1:06.83 in the 100 breaststroke).

The Cougars open the Pacific-10 Championships in Long Beach, Calif., Wednesday, Feb. 14.
