Washington 4A State Champion Sophia Sunwoo Gives 2025 Verbal to Princeton

NEW COMMIT: Princeton University has earned a new verbal commitment* for Fall 2025 from Sophia Sunwoo of Bellevue, Washington.

She will join Sydney Willson and Savannah Skow as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2029.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am absolutely honored to announce my Verbal Commitment to the application process at Princeton University. My journey has been blessed by the unwavering support of my BCST coaches, family, and friends. Thank you coach Abby, Juan and Alex for trusting me with this amazing opportunity. Go Tigers🐅!!”

Sunwoo trains year-round with Bellevue Club Swim Team and finished 19th in the 50m free at Junior Nationals this past summer after winning that event at Pacific Northwest Seniors. She sprinted to 11th in the 50 free, 17th in the 100 free and 20th in the 100 back at Juniors West last December before going on to secure five top-8 finishes at Federal Way Sectionals in March.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.64
  • 100 free – 49.26
  • 200 free – 1:48.24
  • 100 back – 54.14
  • 200 back – 1:59.40
  • 100 fly – 54.81

Currently a junior at Newport High School, Sunwoo won the 100 free and was the 50 free runner-up at the Washington 4A State Championships during her freshman season.

A great pickup for the Tigers, Sunwoo would already score in the A-final of the 50/100/200 free and 100 back at the Ivy League Championships.
