Virginia Scores Verbal from Polish National Teamer Jan Karolczak
NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has gained a new verbal commitment from Warszawa, Poland’s Jan Karolczak who will arrive in Charlottesville in the fall of 2020.
Karolczak swims year-round with G-8 Bielany Warszawa and is a memeber of the Polish Swimming Federation. He represented his native country at the FINA World Junior Championships this past summer where he took 10th in the semi-finals of 100m free after placing eighth in the 200m free at the LEN European Junior Championships in July. He finished fifth in the 200m back and 10th in the 200m free at Polish Nationals in May and earned two golds at the Polish Cup Arena Grand Prix in April.

In LCM, his best times include:
- 50m free – 23.29
- 100m free – 50.03
- 200m free – 1:49.60
- 50m back – 26.35
- 100m back – 56.69
- 200m back – 2:02.16
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 free – 20.26
- 100 free – 43.67
- 200 free – 1:35.90
- 50 back – 22.45
- 100 back – 48.46
- 200 back – 1:46.15
Karolczak will make an immediate impact both individually and on relays when he suits up for the Hoos as a member of the class of 2024. His best times (converted to yards) would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 back at the 2019 ACC Championships where Virginia finished third overall in the team standings.
