Virginia swimming and diving head coach Todd DeSorbo announced the addition of Courtney Caldwell to his staff as assistant coach. Caldwell has spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant with the Cavaliers.

“I’ve known Courtney and her family since doing a home visit with them while recruiting her in high school. She was a tenacious competitor and has carried that over into her coaching career.  I’m excited to add her to our staff as she is one of the brightest up and coming young coaches in the country.  Looking forward to having her on staff full time after two years as a volunteer as she adds a lot of value to our pool deck!”

In her two seasons with Virginia, Caldwell has been part of Virginia’s two NCAA Championships on the women’s side. She helped coach three swimmers to individual NCAA titles and saw the Cavaliers sweep all five relay events in 2023 at the NCAA Championships. During the NCAA Championship run, Virginia dropped eight NCAA, American and US Open records. UVA saw 12 swimmers earn All-America honors and 47 total honors throughout the week.

Caldwell joined UVA’s staff for the 2021-22 season, which saw Virginia’s women win seven NCAA individual titles and four relay championships. That season the Cavaliers scored the most points in UVA history to win the NCAA team Championship. Virginia had 12 swimmers earn All-America honors with 48 total honors that season.
